Ingredients

  • 4 small sweet onions
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ tsp cayenne pepper
  • 2 eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 cups vegetable oil

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • ¼ cup buttermilk
  • ½ tsp dried dill
  • ½ tsp dried parsley
  • ¼ tsp onion powder
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder
  • 1/8 tsp salt
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • 1 tsp chopped chives

Instructions

  1. Peel and trim the onions, keeping the roots intact. Slice each onion in half and make 4–6 vertical cuts to create petals.
  2. Soak the cut onions in ice water for 30 minutes to make them extra crispy, then drain and pat dry.
